Is anyone putting these capacitors back in when they get a new wire harness. I purchased a full wire harness from Lectric Limited but the harness does not include the capacitors. I believe there were 3 to 4 capacitors (behind instrument cluster) that came with the original wiring; radio capacitor for brake light switch, radio capacitor for ignition coil, and radio capacitor for parking brake warning light (there be another one as well?) These were designed for noise suppression for AM radio signals. I don't thinks its necessary unless one plans to listen to am radio. I just wanted to know if guys are re-installing these?? Is one judged on this during judging?
1967 radio capacitors--are people re-installing these???

Re: 1967 radio capacitors--are people re-installing these???
I will share my experience on a 63, your 67 is likely different.
Yes, I believe they are judged if you have a radio, or at least the function is.
I reinstalled mine. How good they work is another story, but they seem to be functioning.
I have an AM "only" radio.
At least one of them is almost impossible to install after the dash is in.
One of the retaining screws is behind the capacitor. Any you can't bend it,after installation, as the dash will be in the way.
You install the cap and then bend the bracket up to get the bottom of the cap to clear the bottom of the dash during the dash install.
If there is a better way I don't know it. Or possibly the 67 is different.
In the Technical Information Manual for 63-4 mentions that "Radio operation judging also includes a check for vehicle generated electrical interference and speaker tonal quality." Nothing about the caps is mentioned in the radio section.
You will need more information from a judge on this one.- Top

If you have them, I would highly recommend installing them. I was an engineer designing car radios back in the 60s - our biggest challenge was filtering out the noises from the motor and various electrical sources. With a Corvette, you add the difficulty of a fiberglass car (a metal hood is good shield). Corvette antennas are in the rear - as far away from the motor noise as possible.- Top
