    1963 Strut Rod Bracket

Here are some pictures of the strut rod bracket off my '63. I have only been able to find two references to the "Shield" on each end. Any other pictures I have seen are missing these shields. Is this something unique to the '63 or did someone add them on for some reason? If they belong I will take them to the welder that will be working on my frame repair and have him do his magic with them.

      Norm,
they belong, though I don't recall where I read about them. I think they were a heat shield and supposedly went away after 63, but, I have them on my Jan 64 coupe. If I can find where I saw them referenced I will add it to this post. Or, someone else will post it here.

Thanks guys. I will have my welder sort them out when I take the frame up to him.

Yes, the only logical reason for their presence is to act as radiant heat shields to protect the inner strut rod bushing from exhaust pipe heat. I believe all '63s should have them, and early '64s, but they were eliminated sometime early in C2 production.

They were just spot or tack welded on, so over time corrosion and various forms of abuse takes a toll like using them as a fulcrum to pry out the strut rod from the bracket.
