Is this an original assembly line fan clutch for a 69 L71

    Is this an original assembly line fan clutch for a 69 L71

    This is off my car and did not know if this was original or not?

    Lawrence - there was a great article on mid-year fan clutches that appeared in the Kansas City Chapter news letter back in 2012. The article has been reduced to a PDF and is available for reading at the link below. Info in the article might help you answer your question. Discussion on Scwitzer units begins on page 3.

      The configuration appears to be an original Sweitzer unit. There should be some stampings along the edge of the mounting flange. Usually it has "SC" for Sweitzer, and a date code. Check to see if the date lines up with the production of your car. If it does then it most probably is original to your car.

        That article does not extend to C3 applications, so info on shaft length, etc is not apropos for a ‘69. It is a very helpful article, though. Thanks for citing it!

          The fan clutch pictured is a GM #3937771. It's the fan clutch likely originally used for your application. If the date works for the car's build, then it's likely the original clutch.

            Check the date on the flange to verify the production date

              Yep original fan clutch. Check out the date on the base.

                  Yea, September 68 car, you have not seen this car Jimmy. Original Paint L71 Fathom Green, Saddle Roadster, 25K miles with a tank sticker, 4.11's Just a neat driver with side pipes...which were added.
