70 Convertible carpet behind the seats question

Did the carpet that goes up the bulkhead behind the seats and folds over the bulkhead tuck under the storage compartment frame?

I never had the original carpet so no example to reference.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Yes it does although you often see it pulled out from under the frame. Apparently it wasn't glued very well.

Re: 70 Convertible carpet behind the seats question

      Hi guys.

Russ, was this area of the carpet ever glued at the factory? Seems there's not enough material to glue in that area. Alan Struck taught me a trick when I did my carpet a few years back. I used small pieces of duct tape to hold the carpet edge to the underside of the storage cutout, which invisibly holds the carpet in place while installing the storage bin frame. I did this at least 5 years ago and it's as good today as it was then.

      Hope this helps...

        Thank you.

        Now this raises another question.

How far from the floor is the finished edge behind the seats?

        Kind Regards,

        Bill

Don, I think you are right about no glue. Neat trick with the tape.

Bill, On my three cars it varies from 1-1/2 to 2-1/4 inches measuring from the low point in the floor.

The edge with the binding comes down to touch the floor or in some cases, overlap it by an inch or so.

I agree with you, Don, about the lack of glue on the carpet. The frame is supposed to hold it.

All three of my car have original untouched carpet and don't come down to the floor but are up to two inches above the floor, however they are two 73s and a 74. It could be different than a 70.

                  Thank you Don and Reba.

Okay now I have yet another question. I have an original piece of carpet that measures approximately 20-1/2" maybe 20-3/4" edge to edge from binding to where the carpet tucks under the frame. The reproduction matches the size. The carpet is not long enough to tuck under the frame unless there is maybe 2-1/2" from the floor to the binding behind the seats and even then it is close.

How long should the carpet be from edge to edge?

Mine is a 70 Convertible just to be clear.

I find the only glue was on the area where the insulation is glued to the carpet.

                  Thanks,

                  Bill
