1957 Fuel Injection indicators

I looked at a 1957 Corvette recently that was represented as an original FI car. The 57 has very few original components and the FI unit has been modified. After market tachometer on steering, replacement block and heads, heavy metal flake paint with cove emblems removed.

I am looking for FI indicators that would confirm the mid 1957 Corvette started life as a fuel car.

57 FI throttle rods differ from carburetor equipped 57 throttle rods. photo in 56-7 judging manual as well as nolands book vol 1. not much more allowing differentiation. beware the FI throttle rods were repo'd as early as the late 70's. mike

Ray, You know what I do and let me say I would be very cautious buying this fuel car. Have a qualified appraiser look at the car and a lot of others in the know look at it.
I wouldn't buy one unless I had a bus load of Dr. Mikes with me. John

forgot to mention the FI emblems: first of all, if the 57 has had a replacement front clip including the front 1/4 panels, or a trunk replacement, then the previous owners may have elected to not replace the fi emblems or they could have repositioned them (correctly or incorrectly) on the replacement fiberglass panels. also note quite a few non FI 57's had over the counter FI emblems attached to their body back in the day. if u find bondo filled holes where FI emblems may have been removed, u could measure their placement relative to the front of the door opening. i'd be happy to look at photos u may have taken when u looked it over. PM me the photos if u'd like. No carolina too far for me to inspect in person. if it were in my area, i'd be happy to look it over, on the cuff. mike

I am quite sure there are no reproduction parts on this car, the 57 has Been sitting for 30 years and is in very poor condition.

We won’t be able to attend, we have just completed our move to North Carolina and need to complete the restoration on our 1790 house. I hope to get active again with the N.C.R.S. next year.

Ray,

Check the trunk lid for FI emblem holes on the underneath side. Approximately 1 inch above the emblem.

Like Mike and others said, the FI throttle rod is unique. It's a rod on both ends; pedal and engine ends.

I was contacted to look at the 57 by a friend that is going to get it in running condition. There may be a chance down the road to purchase the 57, but not at this time.

Forgot to mention, look at the bare fiberglass behind the interior kick panels in front of the door and check for FI emblem holes. I emblems are 3 holes and the Crossed Flags are 2 holes.

The three holes are above the lower emblem on the trunk. Filled with body filler.
