Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but check your AIM for Front Suspension Geometry. In the '57 AIM it's Sect 3, sheet 4. In addition to front specs there's a View C with a corresponding dimension in the table between the rear axle tube and the frame kick-up which I used to check my spring height. This will tell you if the basic spring config is close. And BTW, from your pics of your new springs I'd say they won't pass NCRS judging. No grooves, spring leaf clamps are wrong (more like the 5 leaf type, I think).

How many leaves are in those springs?

100_1067.jpg100_1066.jpgDavid, have you resolved your issue? I hope so. I have a similar (perhaps the same) issue. In a nutshell, the distance from my '57's axle to the frame kick-up is 9.5" when it should be 3.8". In my chassis restoration I replaced my rear springs (that had their own problems) with repos from Paragon. Here's the problems I noticed right away: the prop shaft to differential angle looked too steep, I could not insert the shackles from the inside out as specified and the springs touch the cross-member near the shackle. I called Paragon and asked them if anyone buying these springs had reported any trouble and they said, 'No'. So I figured all these issues would go away when I dropped the body on. Guess what? They're worse!
I hope you resolved your issue for your sake and I hope your solution will solve my problem. P.S. It's a whole lot easier to switch out springs when there's no body present. Frank Condron, Edna Texas

Here's the driver's side shackle. You can see I've mounted it backwards to the spec but that was the only way it'd go. Gonna have to cut it out to get it out if I have to change springs. Frank Condron, Edna, Texas100_1068.jpg

Frank, I did find a good cure for this issue. Most after market off the shelf leaf springs are not correct. The spring rate is wrong. They indeed do fit but hold the car too high. If you read post #29 you will see where I found the correct springs from Ecklers that say that they will return you car to the correct ride height. And indeed they did. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Ecklers tech support before I bought them and they convinced me that theirs would do the job correctly.

Thank you David. I'm glad you found your (and my) answer. Now my fun begins. Frank Condron, Edna, Texas
