Quadrajet carb tuning in Pittsburgh, PA or Youngstown, OH areas?

    Hi all,

The carb on my '69 convertible has recently been rebuilt and is running ok, but it really could use some fine tuning from someone who knows more about quadrajets than myself. Does anyone have any recommendations in the Pittsburgh, PA or Youngstown, OH areas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Paul

It's getting hard to find commercial shops anywhere in the country that understand a 50 year old carburetor, especially for a specific engine configuration. Your best bet it to do a through review of the '69 CSM, which has detailed information of all the various adjustments including setting idle speed and mixture. These cars are actually pretty simple compared to modern cars and the excellent factory service and repair documentation is readily available. Part of the "vintage car experience" is learning how to do minor repairs and old school tuneups.

You might be able to find someone who is experienced with '69 engines in your local chapter who can help you out,

Which engine option is it and is the carb original or a replacement?

It would also help if you would craft a detailed description of the operational problems you are experiencing.

      Try Cliff Ruggles.
I believe he's in Ohio . His business is Cliff's Performance, he really knows quadrajets and has written a couple of books on them.

Funny you should suggest him... he is actually the one who rebuilt the carb. He did a nice job, but he is located a little far away from where I live outside Pittsburgh for me to take the car there for fine tuning. (He's over 3 hours away.)

I think Duke has good advice, but also believe that there is more to your driveability problem, like tune up, ignition wires, timing and such. Any good ASE dyno shop should be able to put the car on a scope and put a sniffer in the tail pipe to READ HC and CO specs under a load and make proper adjustments or corrections.
