Speaking of oil, the other day I was in Walmart to get some Prestone Dexcool for my Grand Prix. I decided I was going to also get some motor oil for an rather imminent oil change for that car. I've always used conventional, high mileage formula, major brand 5W-30. However, I have decided I was going to switch to a synthetic, high mileage formula. Normally, I would not have even considered Walmart's store brand. However, I noticed that their store brand, full synthetic, high mileage motor oil was GM Dexos-approved. Dexos is GM's highest standard and is required for many late model GM cars. That gave me great confidence, so I bought it. The bonus: a 5 quart container was selling for $15.27!
By the way, in case you're wondering, I have found that "high mileage" formula motor oil (for cars with over 75,000 miles) is beneficial in reducing oil consumption and leaks. It costs a little more but I'm absolutely convinced it's worth it. I was once skeptical but based on my own experience I am no more.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Your papers are in the sticky thread above titled "Database of Restoration Documents."
You can refer there rather than telling posters to Google for the reference.

Joe, do you know what the part number is for the Walmart brand you purchased? I don't seem to find it on their web site. I found the Super Tech synthetic, but not the Super Tech HIGH MILEAGE synthetic. I need some for my daughter's 2013 Tahoe.
Thanks

This is weird. I went to walmart.com and put in WMDH533Q in the Walmart search button and it came back no products found!! I even tried the bar code number, but no products found. Then I went to google and put in "Super Tech WMDH533Q" and it showed the Walmart link so I clicked on it. THERE IT WAS!!! But apparently it's not available at my local Walmart.
Thanks Joe.

Update. Went to Walmart last night and found they DO have it in stock! Must be a disconnect between their web site and the real world! Picked up a container and will change the oil this weekend. Thanks again Joe!

Re: 1966 327 L79 engine oil and additive?
I have been using Valvoline VR-1, 10w30 in my 1967 L79 without any additives. I have been buying it at the local NAPA store due to convenience; however, it maybe cheaper other places. My L79 is the original motor with about 70k miles. It was rebuilt about 12 years ago with stock parts and clearances so 10w30 seems appropriate. I have continued to use the original canister style filter with a WIX 51143 element. I suspect other brands may be just as good or cheaper, and that is fine with me. The engine is tight, leak free, and runs like new so it's Valvoline and Wix once a year.- Top
