Emergency Brake Flasher Switch on a '57

I'm thinking about installing an original emergency brake flasher unit in my '57, but I have a question..... Where/how does the metal "tang" that activates the small brass plunger in the switch attach to the brake rod? The '56/'57 AIM (Sheet 1, RPO 420) shows the tang connecting to small retainer "nub" on the brake rod. Further, it appears that the bent, pointed tip of the end of the tang rests directly on top of this nub. This doesn't make sense to me.

Does anyone have a '56 or '57 with a "functioning", original e-brake switch that was installed correctly? Would it be possible to take a few e-pictures of this and send them back to me.....?

    thanks
