    Re: squirts inoperable

I have a '64, had the same problem. Assuming your pump and all the seals and gaskets are functioning properly you likely have the same problem I did - and so does everyone else. You have to prime the system - it is not easy. I got a kitchen syringe (didn't tell my wife) and filled it with water - pull off the hose at the washer reservoir and do your pest to force water into the tube and through the pump. Right now you probably have a huge vapor lock - and the pump doesn't pull enough to get past it - the "air bubble" in the supply line needs to be eliminated or made small enough so the pump can pull it as opposed to compressing it and get to a continuous stream of fluid. Hope this helps. BTW - I was educated on this fine point by Mike McCagh some time ago.

ed: bruce is dealing with a 62, the washer system being significantly different from your midyear. system. perhaps he just needs to prime his system, but i doubt it. regards, mike

Good point Mike - I just recall the good advice (with essential details) you gave me, though I would pass it on with hope that it would rectify the situation for Bruce.

          Hey Mike,
Lets hope that is all i need to do. But how do I prime the system? The squirts worked fine the last time I tried them but that was years ago. I appreciate your help.

just follow ed's description of priming the system but I doubt that's your problem. u may have to get with jay Maxwell, the wiper guru. he ads in driveline. get his suggestions on fixing the problem. good luck, mike

Well the first thing to do is take the correct hose off the tank and, with a mouthful of water, blow through it and see if your squirters are clogged, if water comes out both nozzles, you have other problems....

That hose is shown in the second pic below; next check the valve on the top of the vacuum tank (suck/blow through the hoses) it should only work in one direction (these are reproduced now).

More trouble shooting in this rare TriCo document (follow the narrative in the first PDF for the Nu-Matic Hydrostatic pump).
If you want to dive even deeper, then go through the second document (second PDF); especially the last few paragraphs on diagnosis...

If none of this helps then, yeah, Jay Maxwell is your guy..
