    paint

    Hi All,
I have a 1966 silver pearl convertible. The car is not a show car but it is very nice with excellent paint with the exception of one small scratch on the front of the left fender. The Chevrolet dealership says that the entire front end with the exception of the hood and buckets should be painted instead sanding and spraying that spot, whereas Mershon's (where I bought the car) says it can easily be airbrushed, spotted in I guess. The paint is two stage. Any opinions?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Should not be an issue to blend it in. Look for a quality shop close to you and get a couple of estimates.

I agree with Carl, no need to repaint so much of the car just for a small scratch. Try a Mercedes or Porsche service place, they have experts at doing that.

Thanks Mike, I see you're from New Mexico. From Durango to see a Porsche or Mercedes dealer I'd have to go to Santa Fe. I'll check the independent shops around here.

Right, I always think I am in the middle of nowhere, with only one Mercedes and Porsche dealer in the state, 80 miles from me. I would try a paint shop that does high end cars like those, they typically have good paint touchup and dent removers and expertise. We have a big Corvette group gathering in Durango on Father's Day every year, we stay at the Hampton as the owner hosts our cars and coffee gathering when we are there. Maybe I will see you sometime.

              Re: paint

With two stage paint any painter worth his salt should be able to blend that so as to be unnoticeable. I see the paint shop at my airport do it all the time for minor scrapes (hangar rash) on airplanes worth millions. I had him do a fender on my 68 years ago. You cannot tell where he stopped coming across the nose.
