i took my wiper motor apart to clean and lube i thought i had a spring behind the drip valve needle went to put it together and could not find spring i could be mistaken does anyone know know about this

There should be a spring in there. The default position of the valve is to send water to the windshield. When the washer button on the dash is depressed and held, the solenoid works against the spring and sends fluid to the headlamps. Attached is an exploded view of the valve.
