'96 Convertible Interior Upper Windshield Trim

I need to replace the upper trim across the top of the windshield. The original part number in my car is 10236001. Finding one of these in excellent condition is hard to come by. Finding really nice 14046699 versions is much easier. The current GM catalog states 10236001 fits '84 - '96, while 14046699 fits '84 - '89. In pictures of both these parts online I cannot see any differences but I don't have a 14046699 to compare to my 10236001 side-by-side.

Does anyone know if these parts are 100% interchangeable? If there are differences, do they effect fitment?

This is the last repair I need to make before having this car judged for the first time at the FL chapter meet in November.

According to GM the 14046699 and 10236001 are not interchangeable. Of course, that does not mean that, with or without modification, the 14046699 could not be used for an application originally using the 10236001.

The 14046699 was applicable to 1984-E1986 Corvettes. It was discontinued without supercession in February, 1993. The GM #10236001 "lived on" after that date so I would expect that if GM had considered the 10236001 an acceptable replacement for the 14046699, they would have thus superceded the 14046699. This does not always happen but in the vast majority of the cases, it does.

The 10236001 had several predecessor part numbers. 1989-91 Corvettes used the GM #10153645. The latter was discontinued in October, 1991 and replaced by GM #10153645 which was the 1992 part. The latter was discontinued in September, 1992 and replaced by GM #10218109, the 1993 model year part. The latter was discontinued in September, 1993 and replaced by the GM #10236001, the part used for 1994-96 Corvettes. The 10236001 was discontinued without supercession several years ago. Assuming that any of the part numbers in this series are forward compatible, I would expect that they would have a better chance of working for your application than the 14046699.

I also noticed that the part has another part number (10107841) embossed at both ends. This is followed by these instructions also embossed on the part at both ends: "FOR 1984 - 1988 MODELS DRILL 2.7 1/2 DIA. HOLE FOR ROOF BOLT ACCESS." The 10236001 part number is towards the middle and appears to be stamped, not embossed.

I also think I have figured out the differences. Apparently the roof bolt access hole is located in 3 slightly different locations: 1984 - 1986E, 1986L - 1988, 1989 - 1996.
