Yes, that could be the case. However, the exact same thing could also occur with stock GM rocker studs so I don't see why the ARP studs would be any different in this regard.
However, I did just get a response from ARP to my question and here it is:
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the inquiry. Most self locking nuts are a two crimp lock nut and that creates a greater interference with the root diameter of our studs and can lead to galling. Most OEM studs have a phosphate or cad plating which acts somewhat like a lubricant.
