    Wheels weights for aluminum wheels

I'm still trying to find some original-type wheel weights for '65 aluminum wheels. Anyone know a source?

    Thanks,

    Mike

As far as reproductions go, if anyone has them I would expect it would be Long Island Corvette Supply.

As far as originals go, they're likely as scarce as hen's teeth by now.

    GM #3830798---1/2 oz-------discontinued without supercession June, 1973

    GM #3830799---1 oz----------discontinued without supercession October, 1977

    GM #3830801---2 oz----------discontinued without supercession July, 1973

So, the last one was discontinued 42 years ago. That's a long time for whatever dealer stock SERVICE inventory existed at that time to be mined out.

By the way, the 1-1/2, 2-1/2, and 3 oz oz weights used in PRODUCTION were never available in SERVICE. So, you'd never be able to find NOS examples of those.

Mike- I believe the weights are typically more outboard... but I think you've tried that too.
Perhaps you can find/try some different brands of wheels weights... looking for a 'thinner' version.

Those original "AL" weights are very difficult to find. I finally have them on all my original spares, but it took several years to find them one by one, good luck!

You are a braver man than I to drive around on original P48s, but I do use my older Western Wheel knock-offs (set screw in hub) on my '66 as everyday driving wheels with Coker Goldline radials. Balancing them was also a bear, but this is the weight setup Discount Tire did on them.......

If you can't find thinner weights, consider grinding ONE down and testing until it clears. At that point, if you know the total weight needed, and the center location for the weights... you might be OK.

Meet this person last year at Carlisle. He had quite an assortment of original weights and was reproducing his own K.O. weights. Very knowledgeable on this topic (you may need to dip into your 401K though).

Does anyone know where on the rim that you’d stick the glue-on ones? They interfered with the rear caliper in the location Discount Tire stuck them in (where the glue remains in the pic below). More outboard, perhaps?

Nuances of originality aside, are there not currently manufactured, clip on weights that will work for these wheels? Back in the days of steel wheels there was basically only one wheel weight configuration to serve all steel wheel needs. However, since the proliferation of alloy wheels, there is now quite a large selection of wheel weight profiles. It would seem to me that one or more of these would work. In addition, some of the types that are out there appear to me to be very outwardly similar to the original knock-off wheel weights.

I agree Joe, if you look at my old Western Wheel knock-offs, I do not believe the lip on the edge of the backside rim is any different than originals. Discount Tire used clip on weights for mine.

I this an original KO weight ? It's off a '66 VIN 13162, wheel stamped B-1-66 (a set of 5 I have, but this is the only one with a weight).
