70 DS Door Lock Pawl Part Number

The driver's side lock pawl on my 70 seems to be pretty worn out so I would like to replace the lock pawl while door is apart. Some sites show 69-82 as being the same and others show 69-77E and 77L-82 separately.

    I prefer original GM.

What is the correct part number for the left hand lock pawl and subsequent part number changes if applicable?

    Kind Regards,

    Bill

If what I think is the part you are talking about actually is the part you are talking about, it was never available from GM as a separate part. It was only available as a component of the the lock assembly. It may be available in the aftermarket or "reproduction" source as a separate part but was never so available from GM.

I think I did misunderstand what part you were referring to. As Paul suggests, it was probably the door lock CYLINDER pawl. That part was available separately. The left (driver) side pawl was GM #3961313. Unfortunately, it was discontinued without supercession in November, 1992.

One of the reasons I did not initially think that this was what you were referring to is that I am not aware of this part usually suffering significant wear.

          Thank you Joe,

Is was not so much the pawl as it was the retainer. I massaged the retainer and not it all seems good.

          Kind Regards,

          Bill

            Yes that was the one.

Thank you Paul. All fixed up by massaging the retainer. I compared to the passenger side and discovered that the retainer on the driver's side lost its bend.

            Kind Regards,

            Bill

Cars with power door locks wear out the pawl much more commonly then without.
