Re: Any way to distinguish a china made ignition coil from a genuine nos
You could observe one of these two situations:
With the China made reproduction 1115202 ignition coil your engine will not run.
With a genuine Delco Remy NOS 202 coil your engine will run.- Top

Metric threads on Chinese vs std thread on original Delco.- Top

To test them I throw them in the lake behind my house....if they sink they're bad, if they float, they're good...
As a generic back-up or troubleshooting part the NAPA Echlin IC-12 will do in a pinch...- Top

Re: Any way to distinguish a china made ignition coil from a genuine nos
If you need an #087 or #202, originals are extremely easy to obtain in NOS or used condition for reasonable prices. There is no need to buy an offshore Delco look alike reproduction. Used coils are a good choice if tested on a running car and brought to operating temperature. Properly cosmetically restored they will judge and operate perfectly. If you need rarer colis like #263, #210, #231, #272 etc. then that is a different story. Those are production line only and are quite scarce.- Top

Dave Strickland may have a few for sale. Or call David S in California.......his phone number is in the Driveline. Ebay is another source. Or simply put an ad in the Driveline or over at Corvette Forum C2 WTB website.
There are MANY MANY places to buy if you check around.
