New C-8 Reveal today in Rochester NY

Got to see 1st hand the new C-8 at Bob Johnson Chev. Very impressive. We were lucky the crowd count was such that we were able to sit in the car unlike other higher volume showings where the car was roped off. Strange to see a small trunk in front where the engine usually resides. This was a 3 LT fairly loaded up model and the background display showed color choices, seat and wheel options and a video of behind the scenes build process. Next stop for this group is just down the road at Van Bortal Chev.

That's the same car I saw at the Macmulkin reveal in Nashua, NH last week. It's making the rounds in the Northeast. Car is very impressive. Pricing comes out today for all the options. My Elkhart Blue, Z51 is already on order.

Impressive price-performance, and I've heard good things about the quality of the interior materials.

But I can't get past the exterior design, especially the front and rear. It's too busy. Maybe it looks better in person?

I've never ordered a new car before. Can you order a new car without the backup camera, infotainment systems,GPS and screen?

I expect, no. After May 2018 federal requirement for back-up camera on vehicles under 10,000 pounds. Infotainment system integral to car operations - no easy way to remove some components.

This car will be at VanBortel Chevrolet in Macedon tomorrow (Friday) from noon until 8 PM. My wife and I are going to go see it (will drive my Corvette).

Here's a C8 prototype which recently crashed near my area of Sonora, California (near Yosemite National Park)

Over time, it is appearing better to me, except for that color, and of course with a ZR1 type performance. I will look forward to seeing one in person someday. Having test driven several mid-engine cars over the years, I am concerned about interior noise, vibration, visibility, and of course luggage space. Time will tell.

I'm familiar with priest grade. Could've been a lot worse on old priest grade.

You mean the "hugger orange" color to go with the Camaro tail lights?

We visited the C8 Corvette at VanBortel Chevrolet. They let everybody sit in the car and were taking orders.

While sitting in the driver’s seat I felt isolated from passenger seat. There is a tall “wall” between driver and passenger. Top of the wall has a entire row of switches/buttons for various functions. Others at the dealership sad it was like being in a cockpit of a fighter airplane. The LED screen is positioned so only driver can see it. I feel the passenger as navigator needs to see it too. Seat is comfortable and a lot of leg room. Ease of entry and exit is about same as C7. No way my wife and I could fit everything for a road tour. Not even a week end trip could be managed.

The top center section is removable but is stowed in the rear extra stowage area. So if the top is off you have no stowage in the rear.

This car appears to be a race car first and street car as wishful thinking. The front spoiler is too low to handle our roads without fear of damage. Rail road tracks and driveway curbs another concern for spoiler damage. Our C7 is susceptible to this type damage if no care in maneuvering over these obstructions. I would have no interest in a C8 but it was fun checking it out. It was stated by some this is a car directed at the next generation not us old gray haired guys. Maybe that’s true. The door when open has a spear like duct trim that sticks out beyond the door perimeter that appears to be obstructive.

You will need to see it in person to form your own opinion of what you like and don’t like. All this is just MHO don’t let it influence your ideas on the car, see it for yourself and make your own opinion.

                              Justin,

I worked as a construction engineer on the New Priest Grade and the Highway 120 section between Mocassin and Chinese Camp in 1970.
Just before they opened the highway up and it was freshly paved in the fall of 1970, I took my 67/327/300 convertible on the 3 mile, straight as a arrow section out of Mocassin, to see what it would do. I got it up 135 mph before I lost steering and was almost airborne. What a rush, never did that again and I still have the car.
