    Bowtie 5th Star Requirements

I received my Bowtie Award in Greenville this year, and am pursuing the 5th Star for 2020.
According to the Judging Reference Manual [Section 9, Sub 12, page 50], this requires the car to be displayed at multiple NCRS meets, including at least one regional meet. Also, the car can be used as a chapter judging school subject, which can substitute for a chapter meet display.

I learned on Tuesday July 16 that my car had received four stars. My understanding is that if Terry McManmon used it as a subject car for his Advanced Judging Seminar on Wed or Thu that week, this would waive my requirement of a regional display. Terry acknowledged this when he and I discussed its use, and my car (1982 Collector) was used in the Wed July 17 seminar.

There seems to be no printed documentation that this policy actually exists.
Brian Pearce, my Team Leader, says he has never heard of it.
Has anyone here ever gotten their 5th Star without a regional display?
Do you know of anyone who has done so, and can verify it?
Is this something that Terry and I have had some sort of mass hallucination about?

Why don't you ask the National Judging Chairman instead of receiving a response from a multiple of sources...that way it comes directly from the horses mouth, I believe Terry McManmon is correct, but to be sure, check with Dave Brigham and that will settle it once and for all.

There is nothing in writing about this benefit. It has been in effect for the last five years or so. When the JRM is updated you will then find it in writing.

It is not correct to say in these circumstances one gets the 5th Star with out a Regional display. Rather the use of a car for the Advanced Judging Seminar at the National Convention where it receives the 4-Star Bow Tie Award counts as a Regional Display.

Based on our conversation at Greenville you were aware of this benefit going into the event. I sent the list of cars I used, including yours, to Dave Brigham last week and I expect by now your car, and the others we used for the AJS, are credited with the Regional Display.

If you have questions about this situation they should be directed to the National Judging Chairman. I have said and done what I can.

PS: Vinnie beat me to it because I am at work and required to do some things for my employer and I wasn't able to respond so quickly.

        Re: Bowtie 5th Star Requirements

I appreciate your responses. Brian Pearce and I actually talked about this late morning on Monday the 12th, after my initial post.
Yes, I could have asked Dave Brigham directly... but then only I would have learned the answer.
My apologies if this was an inappropriate subject for the discussion board.
Perhaps my good intentions of sharing the knowledge with others has instead only added a few more yards of pavement on the highway to Hades...

Interim updates to the JRM are announced in The Corvette Restorer in the Judging Chairman's Message. How long this practice has been in place I can't state but suspect it falls with the tenure of the current judging chairman. This was announced at the 2019 Judging Retreat and the image shown here was clarified in the past year and published in The Corvette Restorer...FWIW.

I agree with Gary the JRM needs to be updated after 9 years. We tell members to use the JRM at least we can do is have it updated. How about having an updated version on line ?

What I am trying to understand in this computer/digital age is why not the changes and rule announcements are NOT posted under the title of Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide Errata Sheets on the Technical Discussion Board? This was started by Mr. Brigham as it has one post that he started, February, 2015 and has not been posted to since. Would this not be another tool or vehicle In Addition to the Corvette Restorer Magazine for this purpose? Have not got an answer is why it was started and not being used.

                    Gary:
You should read each Restorer and the judging chair's message and then you will know all of the rule changes. My only question is if someone joins tomorrow; are all of the past Restorer's available some where for that person to do the same so they understand ALL of the rules. I think we are asking a lot of a new member to do all of that reading (not very welcoming) . By your number I can see you've been around awhile so you probably have a complete set of Restorer Magazines. May be you could make copies and sell them to any new member.
