1963 Gas Cap Restoration Advice

Is there an article somewhere where it shows how to restore this 1963 gas cap? I want to make sure that when I bend these tabs back, I don't ruin then and do it properly.

Hi Jerry, What is wrong with you '63 fuel cap besides the plating? If that is the issue just have the cad replated. That's what I did on my '63 cap. John

I have also had them re-plated without disassembling them.

Jerry, See the small vent hole. That's the real deal cap. But your cap does have an big dent.
Look for another cap would be my advise Jerry. John

Are they the same from 63 up to? Should be lots around as many take short cut and buy new over the years.

Like so many other things early 63's had their own gas cap.
The newer caps fit but would be technically incorrect for a early car.

tes the earlier cars had a dimple on the underside of cap, The location was at the vent on underside of cap. there should be a picture in the JM. I cannot quite see Jerrys cap picture is not detailed enough as I believe his car is a Oct. car.

If you don't find one during your travels at Carlisle, I have an early 1963 Corvette gas cap available. Restored and has been through judging on my 1964 at a chapter meet where I found out it was for an early '63. I had it on my car because my dad bought a '63 back in 1972 and put a locking gas cap on it and put the original on the parts shelf. I restored my '64 in the early 1980's and it didn't have an Corvette gas cap but had a locking one, so down to the basement for the '63 cap. Maybe we can work out a trade plus so cash?
