Correct orientation of shift levers on Muncie M21 Tranny

What is correct orientation of the shift levers on a 66 Muncie 4 speed M21 close ratio Tranny? These are the levers that the shift rods are attached to. Are both levers supposed to be bent in towards the tranny, bent out towards the tunnel or one towards the tranny and one out towards the tunnel. Currently I have the 3-4 lever bent out towards the tunnel and the 1-2 lever bent in towards the tranny. Is it the same orientation whether you are using the top mounting holes or the lower holes for shorter shifting distance ?
Currently I have the 3-4 lever bent toward the tunnel and the 1-2 lever is bent towards the tranny.
    Thanks,

Both should be innies, bent towards the tranny. Lower hole is short throw, upper hole is factory long throw. Adjust rod ends per instructions in AIM or service manual.
