Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
If you have old ones, have then sleeved............or buy used ones and sleeve them.
Also get the GM part Number and search Ebay and the internet. Also "1963-64 brake cylinders" may also work in a search function vs the part number.

Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
I purchased a set, front & back, at NAPA 2 years ago - no problem, they work just fine. One thing though, the bleed valve that comes with the cylinder has a metric hex head - I purchased a set of bleeding valves from LIC, 3/8 inch hex and the treads were a perfect match to the threads in the cylinder. They fit perfectly too.Ed- Top

Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
Not sure about that - I think the companies are still US but the parts are actually made elsewhere. I think the brake cylinders were made in Mexico - Mexico stuff is not too bad, Federal Mogul, AC Delco, Raybestos, and others are down there - most stuff in parts stores are made in Mexico.Ed- Top

Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
Took a "VERY" remote chance on Rock Auto. Parts (front cylinders) arrived via Fed-Ex yesterday. One cylinder in a ACDelco Durastop box, the other cylinder in a ACDELCO "Professional" box. BOTH boxes labels say "Made in China". Again, I don't care about configuration, just would prefer real Made in USA parts. I know, that seems to be our problem these days. Rear cylinders will arrive today via USPS. Should be interesting. Jack J.- Top

Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
Rear wheel cylinders follow-up. Both from Rock Auto in ACDelco "Professional" boxes, Made in China. Interestingly, picture of left cylinder on Rock Auto's website shows left cylinder ONLY, embossed with #7565 - MADE IN USA. Obviously, either OLD picture or false advertising! Time to move on. Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
Rock Auto only sells one thing, a low price.
My friend purchased a power window motor for his Silverado from Rock Auto.
Didn't work, even once, before it broke.
Although he purchased another one elsewhere it was also Chinese.
At least it worked and kept working.
I needed the same motor for my Silverado.
Paid twice what the aftermarket part cost for one from from GM.
It was also made in China. The original had made in USA all over it.
Even if companies can make it here they will switch to Chinese and pocket the extra profit.
The way it is in a global economy.

Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
Anyone recommend a vendor that will re-sleeve my original '64 brake wheel cylinders at a reasonable price? Lone Star was way high per wheel cylinder when I got a quote from them.
Thanks,

Jack, I have sent 8-10 Corvette master cylinders and lots of wheel cylinders to this man. Does nice work but only sleeves, you have to kit them yourself. The last set of wheel cylinders Mark sleeved I bought some of those foreign wheel cylinders from Rock Auto, gutted them and used the parts to sleeve the original cylinders on a 57. Everything fit and is working fine. Scott

Re: Brake wheel cylinders-1964
FYI. White Post rebuilt my 57 wheel cylinders. Did an excellent job and fast turn-around. I had them back in 1 week.
They sleeve with brass, which I prefer over CRES (stainless). The aftermarket ones I bought previously were junk, so I 'junked' them and had the originals rebuilt.

I have the original wheel cylinders boxed up and maybe I'll have 'em overhauled at some point...- Top
