    paint points

My '67 C2 is Marlboro Maroon... sort of. Repainted in 2002 (not by me) using PPG 4240 - 2000 GM Sonoma "Cherry Red". Actually not a bad match for Marlboro Maroon. I (some others) think the color looks fantastic. But! For top flight judging I'll loose 100% of the paint points. I'm told that if the paint in the door jams, hood channels, convertible deck lid channel were a bit duller I'd get a few points back.

Any suggests on how-to dull up the paint in the non-surface areas? Thanks

I believe that you will lose all of the paint points no mater what you do to make those parts look dull. Think its all or nothing.

      Gary,
just for fun, since your question reminded me of it, I dug out this blast from the past thread that you will enjoy.

After you digest it, dig out the Standard Deduction Guidelines from the Judging Reference Manual and look up Sects 10 and 11.
So you don't confuse Color, with Paint. They are two separate judging aspects. After all that reading, you will have a clearer idea of your situation vis a vis flight judging.

Fun. Funny. And even slightly informative thread. Thanks Don!

Gary... good product for dulling is Krylon Matte Finish 1311. Have used it in Construction work for dulling finish on all kinds of painted surfaces. Yes, it works great on car paints also.

That may have been what I used prior to judging; it actually did a pretty good job of "knocking down" the shiny paint to look like the unbuffed factory finish in the areas cited above...

I think I have a pretty good "knocking down" idea that I've been thing about for a while. A little more complicated than the rattle can ideas. BUT! Before I dive into that... Is it NCRS legal to "knocking down" the paint?

                "Legal" ?

If it appears as factory it should pass judging....as is done with other things as well...

There have been several changes to the paint judging process the past couple of years. Make sure you have the latest flow chart. They have gone a long way to provide opportunities for owners to "gain back points." Dave Brigham traveled the country providing seminars at the regional meets to drive this point home.
