    Re: Heat riser stuck closed

That's the kind of thing I am worried about after getting this car that has been sitting around for maybe 30 years. As I start driving it often and putting miles on it, I am checking everything that should be fixed to make sure some major damage is not done.

I did wire it open, and nothing seems any different except it takes longer for the carb choke to fully open. So, I may just leave it that way through the summer and reassess in the late fall.

In those days, it was common to carry a spray can and give the riser a shot every now and then. On my 65, I just took the baffle off the shaft and reinstalled the assembly. Same with changing spark plugs every 3000 miles till I went to 1 heat range higher from factory ones. Those were the DAYS!!!!

Yes, it's kinda strange, as it looks pretty clean, and the springs and coil are strong, I may take it off and check it out closely, maybe something is off where it should be. As far as changing spark plugs on a C2, I sure do appreciate my '63 that was ordered without a radio more than the ones that have radios......

My 63 has the shielding and aftermarket A/C but I have spark plug changes nearly down to a science....even if I go slow its about a 45 minute job and no damage without any bloodshed...

The heat riser pivot points can get carbonized and bind even though everything may look good externally so I wouldn't judge by that...

I gave up on heat risers years ago I just cut out the damper and leave the rest in place.
