Dan, do you have the latest version of the 56-7 JM? Gary....

          Rubber Items & Clips

Filler pipe, black rubber pipe grommet and gas cap are normally unpainted. Door bumpers are installed with a horizontal "shelf" at the top were installed prior to painting with black #6 clutch head screws in 1956 and #6 Phillips oval head chrome screws in 1957 and have a thin metal stiffening insert.

Wow! Interesting descriptions, a part # for this chrome screw w insert would make me a believer (AIM section E sheet 3 screw #431766)

              Dave,

Unfortunately, in 20 plus years of tracking fasteners, part numbers, descriptions, etc. have never found an "official" description for screw # 431766 that's listed in the AIM. Description is probably in the GM Standards book, but I've never been able to acquire a set.

The 56-7 JM description comes from what's been seen over since late 70's on 2 dozen or more unrestored and in the last ten years on several Bowtie cars.

Plus the expertise of the late Dick Robinson - 1957 restorer extraordinar

Yes i do have the latest version of the JM and it does say #6 Phillips oval head chrome screws in 1957 and have a thin metal stiffening insert. But the screw chart on page 237 it says Flat Head #6. Thanks for all you work on the JM.

My bad for poor proof reading - JM editors can all use more help!

It does appear these 2 little screws need a little more research. Trying to understand why a "chrome screw with insert" would be used on rubber bumpers #4581256 (Fisher Body) that were attached during the paint process does not seem logical. Have an original taken off in early 80's and would favor the page 237 version.
