Exterior screws on my '67 Vette

Hello, this question has probably been asked many time before and if so, I apologize for asking it again...The question is, what is the proper material for exterior (and interior for that matter) for the screws: chrome plated, stainless steel, some other type? Many thanks, Jay

depends on what screw your talking about. this is not a one size fits all answer

All I have seen are chrome plated. I have polished SS to look like chrome on ocasions.

Hi Jay,

Like Dom says many exterior screws and interior too were chrome plated. But not all. Be specific of what particular screw/bolt info you need and I'm sure we'll all help you out with what we've found through the years. I for one have always enjoyed fastener research and insist on original hardware on my cars. I avoid repro at all cost.

If one has an anal compulsion and insists that all screw slots be aligned either horizontally or vertically, will this result in a point deduction in judging for over restoration since the cars did not come from the factory that way.
