Coolant Overflow Hose Routing and Length for LS5 AC Car

How is the coolant overflow hose routed on a 1970 LS5 AC car? AIM only (vaguely) shows the first few inches after it leaves the nipple below the surge tank cap. It does not show any clamps or retainers. Is this right?

How long is it and where does it exit (discharge)?

    Thanks guys.

Guidance is appreciated. Photos would be great.

AIM suggests the only thing holding the hose on the car is the friction fit onto the expansion tank tube. But how is it routed from there?

Mark, the tube I believe drops down and sits between the lower splash shield sealing strip and inner fender well, there should be a small opening, maybe a 1/2 inch below.

Thank you Edward. When I install the splash shield, I'll look for the opening. That may make everything more clear.

I'm surprised AIM does not show this routing. It's not obvious.

            Thank you Mathew!

What you're calling a splash shield looks like the inner fender in your photo.

This solves a mystery- my inner fender doesn't have the hole for the overflow hose. When I purchased the car in 1990, that portion of the inner fender was missing. I suspect a PO cut it out for easier access to the spark plugs, but I'm not sure.

I repaired the inner fender by splicing a piece from a junkyard car. That splice is what's missing the hole for the overflow.

Did all 1970 inner fenders have this hole? Or only cars with a fender mounted expansion tank? Maybe the donor car had a radiator mounted cap and overflow tube, hence no hole in its inner fender?

So does anyone know if all 1970 right inner fenders had this hole, used or not?

Or if only cars with an expansion tank had the hole?
