    1970 LT1 fuel pump

I have a mid july 70 car. The fuel pump looks to be a service part. Is there a posibility of finding a dated correct 40709 pump for this car? thanks Far any help

    Re: 1970 LT1 fuel pump

The one on my early July 70 was LH40709. I saved it, had it rebuilt, eventually went into a early 71. I found another LH40709 three years ago at Bloomington Gold in the swap meet. No, it's not for sale. It also was rebuilt. Prior to that, I found one at a swap meet in Kalamazoo, MI. That was probably 25 or 30 years ago. Early 80's? I won't say they are not out there, but I have only found two or three in my lifetime. Kind of like finding chicken lips. I have never found one at Carlisle, but I still look at everyone I see.

    I'll keep looking.

            71 #2485, 4215, and 9257 all have original LH40709 pumps.

              I used Fred Ballard PH# 661-251-2362. To rebuild a fuel pump for a 1970 L46.

As far as I know, he's still around and the proprietor of Goat Hill Classics in Long Beach, CA. He specializes in manufacturing "reproduction" pulleys ("The Pulley King"), "reproduction" harmonic balancers, rebuilding water pumps, rebuilding fuel pumps, and "reproduction" coils (using original tops).I think he's a member of NCRS so you should be able to contact him through this board. Incidentally, one-upon-a-time he told me that his experience in the machine tool industry is so vast that there's hardly anything he could not do.

I’m sure Paul does very good work, but the deal between him and I Was that if you want to go ahead and try to rebuild my fuel pump and use as a guinea pig I don’t have a problem with it, But when I specifically asked and was clear can you please send me back the upper and lower sections so I can restore them and then send them back to you for an internal rebuild and then I get it returned with just the bottom portion being golf cad and light plated. The Plating roof lin but when I pacifically asked of me to clear can you please send me back the upper and lower sections so I can restore them and then send them back to you for an internal rebuild and then I get it returned with just the bottom portion being cold air and light plated. The Plating looks great, but it did not cosmetically flow with the upper body of the pump itself.

The experience you describe is very consistent with the type of experience others have reported.

The problem was that you trusted him.

Based on the many comments here over the past many years, that was not a wise thing to do.

I will now have to inspect your car in 3 weeks and verify which fuel pump you have on there, with severe deductions for the wrong finish.

Goat hill classics is who I was going to use... He advertises on the Camaro Research Group and I had not heard anything detrimental there.
