My plan is to enter our car in flight judging at French Lick IN. next summer.(2020) Car was last flight judged on Oct. 14, 2017 at Chapter level. Is it mandatory to have a flight judging between now and then or does Oct. 14 2017 fall within the three calendar year limit as stated in NCRS Judging rules? Seems a simple question but the more I think about it the more confused I become! Anyone have thoughts on this ? thanks in advance for any guidance.

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
John,
My understanding is that you get three calendar years, PLUS the year of the convention.
As the Judging Ref Manual states: "... within the convention year, or preceding three calendar years..."
So, you have 2020 (year of convention), plus 2019, 2018, and 2017.
Oct 2017 falls within that range; you are good to go.
However, given that new data about any model year/class is discovered as time passes,
I would recommend at least one additional Chapter Flight judging before then.
That might help eliminate any "surprises" not covered on your current set of judging sheets.B.D.

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
I would suggest you plan on being judged at a Regional event prior to registering for the National. In most cases, the level of judging expertise is much higher with the national judging team.

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
John, if your plan is to present your car for the Duntov at the Nationals you need a PV, you did not mention the PV requirement. If your plan is to PV the car at French Lick you may want to follow the plan a number of members have done in the past. First your top to third flight at a chapter meet qualifies the car for PV at a regional, next flight judging without driving points at another regional where you will need to receive a 97 or better. Now you are ready to present the car at a national for the Duntov, where your car must receive another 97 without driving points, that is, if you pass the PV (known to make grown men cry). On one occasion, I subjected one of my cars to three PV attempts. Third time was the charm. Good luck.- Top

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
A National Top Flight award would be my goal. Had not considered the PV, and glad that you mentioned it. does the PV occur before or after the flight attempt? the car is very road worthy and will be driven to French Lick hopefully with no rain or trashy highways. About 150 - 200 hundred miles would be a guess of distance. Have a national Top flight from 2014 and a 2017 Bloomington Gold as well as a Chapter Top Flight. Can you explain the advantage or the PV and a brief description of what is involved? Thanks!- Top

John, I suggest you get the Judging Reference Manual (available at the online store). It outlines all the awards and the prerequisites to achieve them. A PV is only required to achieve a Duntov award. Good luck, Don H.- Top

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
This thread may have gone off track, and become more confusing to OP with discussion of PV and Duntov award. He only said he was interested in entering National Flight judging in 2020, based upon previous Chapter judging in October 2017. That meets the prerequisite detailed in Section 2, Paragraph 30, of the JRM IF OP is the same owner now as when the car was Chapter judged. The rule says 'same ownership'. As Brian and Dennis wrote above, OP is strongly encouraged to enter a Regional meet before entering the National meet next year.
I moved the posts on Duntov award time restrictions to its own thread, here -->

You may want to find out when the new one ( 9th Edition ) is going to be published as the old one it's kind of outdated. Check with Dave at the NCRS Store maybe he knows.

No need to order the Judging Reference Manual as if you will scroll down you will see the judging awards, just click on it. Just remember it is outdated.- Top

Per NCRS store, the current edition ( 8th Edition of the Corvette Judging
reference Manual ) was published in 2010. There are no known plans for the 9th Edition to be published at this time. As in the past all material will be available for purchase at Indy during Bloomington Gold in the usual location.- Top

You can always ask Dave Brigham our National Judging Chairman if you have questions. He might be able to tell you when the manual might be updated.
