You can still purchase lacquer paint here in Longview WA.
Call Evergreen Paint and see if they provide shipping. I am not affiliated and am unsure about the shipping aspect, they will tell you if it's possible.
Expect to pay $2500 to 3K for supplies depending on the color.

Problem with the lacquer you buy today is the lead is gone, ALL THE BASE and TINT COLORS originally used have been gone for way over 20 years. Todays lacquer will not be a hard a surface at it was. What you buy today are offset colors, hit and miss on the match. You need to have access to tinting colors to get a perfect match.

I strongly urge you to go with PPG DCC Acrylic Urethane. It "works", "behaves" and looks a lot like like lacquer. The last gallon of lacquer i bought was 800 and I will never buy one again.

A talented painter who will take his time can pretty much duplicate lacquer. Metallics are a problem as the particles used in modern paints are very different that the ones used 30 years ago. John Ballard has/had a source for the correct metallic particles to use in you mix.

Has anybody else used this PPG Arylic Urethane ? The color match is critical, I just need to spot a very small 4" by 4" or so area
Daytona yellow so no metallic issue. But the original color seems to have faded a couple shades over 50 years so I am sure even after
polishing the paint is going to need to be tinted to match. The removable hard top apparently was in storage and condition / color is
very good won't touch, just a bit of polish. What about that PPG Acrylic Urethane ???? blend / tint THANKS ALL

I bought mine at TCP Global in California. I painted my entire car so I didn't have to "color match" a touch up spot. From what I can tell, my colors were spot on.

You will probably be better off doing a panel rather than trying to spot. Get your paint, shoot a let down panel to check the color match. You may have to shoot several before you get it right

Re: lacquer paint Where to buy ?

I buy all of my Lacquer at the PPG store in Athens TN. They will spend time with you until you get the color how you want it. I did over 30 sprayouts before I got my Marina Blue Lacquer right for my 67 435 roadster and I had my original lower valance and decklid to go by. Also, if your color is metallic we had to use the finest metallic and end up taking a good bit of it out of the formula. I paid about $650 a gallon for the paint and didn’t even use a whole gallon. If you want it like they were it doesn’t need a lot. Had it at the Regional in Frisco in October and did 99.4 first time out with no deduct on paint. Although today’s material isn’t the same, you can get it close if you are willing to spend the time. Not gonna be easy or fast, especially if metallic. John Ballard is good to talk to as well through the process. He spent a lot of time with me. Jeff

Re: lacquer paint Where to buy ?

Interesting discussion. I was just speaking to my painter about the fact that I REMEMBER Nassau Blue ( I'm old), and none of the repainted Nassau Blue cars I have seen are Nassau Blue. They are closer to a paler Corvette blue that I don't know the name of. THEN, I opened the deck lid--new to the car and spent the last 4 months just fixing the amazing garbage people did to this beautiful car, and it ain't over yet, unfortunately--and finally found Nassau Blue under the lid. While I realize this was an early attempt at the factory adding a flake to paint, it seems to have worked out OK from what I remember and see. My painter doesn't believe in lacquer paint--the lead thing keeps it from looking right he says, and it is a pain to get right--so even though we will not be painting the car unless some kind person wants to supply the $20,000, we will be touching-up some areas with whatever it was painted with back whenever that happened. There is no history on this car that I can find beyond first delivery in 1966 (Zone Office) and a purchase in 1993 in my state. No way to find out what they used from the horse's mouth, but we will figure it out. Too bad about paint colors today. Has ANYONE found a way to duplicate the REAL Nassau Blue with base-clear? Please let me know for future work.

                        Cheers,

                        Richard

Marlboro Maroon and Sunfire Yellow also vary a lot in consistency..
