      Larry,

      Of course, fresh cast iron is ideal. But even old manifolds can look good. Use a small, stiff wire brush to remove loose rust. Apply Calyx with a toothbrush then work it into the pores using your fingers (wear latex gloves). After a few heat cycles, reapply if/as needed to achieve the look you want.

        Ive been successful to pass judging by using a very, very, light coat of hi temp cast blast. just a mist basically ( a fog - if you will) spray far away to avoid getting too much on. then I cook it in oven at 350 for 30 minutes. bead blast first. then use lacquer thinner. then apply the paint
