I like the look and ease of applying Calyx cast iron dressing. Rub it on, and it lasts a few years. It's easy to renew and touch up. Plus it can be applied with the manifold on the car.

Many in NCRS don't use it because judges look for it by rubbing the manifold. To my eye it looks like fresh cast iron.

Mark>What would the best type of condition of the Manifold before one applies Calyx? eg.>Freshly sand blasted-Bead blasted or
just applied over the manifold as is with some rust on it?? Thanks-Larry

Larry,

Of course, fresh cast iron is ideal. But even old manifolds can look good. Use a small, stiff wire brush to remove loose rust. Apply Calyx with a toothbrush then work it into the pores using your fingers (wear latex gloves). After a few heat cycles, reapply if/as needed to achieve the look you want.

Ive been successful to pass judging by using a very, very, light coat of hi temp cast blast. just a mist basically ( a fog - if you will) spray far away to avoid getting too much on. then I cook it in oven at 350 for 30 minutes. bead blast first. then use lacquer thinner. then apply the paint
