    Late 1964/early 1965 Dash Rivets

Are the dash rivets suppose to be black and then painted the trim color?

If the interior is the same color as the exterior then black rivets. If contrasting colors then the tab and rivets are painted body color

That would be correct for 1965 through 1967 production, where the extra step (body paint on the dash tabs) was eliminated IF the exterior and interior colors were the same (red / red, blue / blue, etc.). But 1963 and 1964 cars left St. Louis with painted (body paint color) tabs and rivets.

Hank, Thank you for the information. My car is Nassau Blue and has white and blue interior. Given such, I will need to paint the rivets the Nassau Blue. It is always a bit of a challenge with this car. The car is a mule/prototype car.

That's a great color combination. Best of luck with your restoration.

To muddy the waters a little, I have a late 64 (May 64) that is white with saddle interior. The left tab was black with black rivets, and bottom rivet was missing. The right tab was white with white rivets. I have always wondered why the difference and just figured it was another anomaly in production. I have attached a couple photos which corroborates this claim. You have to enlarge the photos to see the tabs. Well, it looks like the web site down sized the photos from 1.7meg to 60K, so it is harder to see. The body was off then going back on with the help of friends in 1986.

                  Hank,

Glad you could enlarge the photo. Yes, the tabs are original. This was the first and only time this car was apart. It was never wrecked or restored; everything on it was original. I am the first one to "restore" it. I still own the car and it is an ongoing project.

                    Hank,

On 63/64 cars were the interior door light switches installed before the tabs and rivets were painted thus possible to have some overspray on them? I have a very original 64 coupe that would suggest that was the case.

                    Thanks,
                    Jace
