    '67 L79 water pump

Rebuilding my 3859326 water pump from my L79 with power steering and factory A/C. The TIM&JG states "the fan clutch mounting hub is pressed 1/8" back onto the pump shaft...to allow pulley alignment." Does this pic look like an OK install?

    Leif:

Somewhere on this forum or the CF is the correct dimension for your water pump hub based on the back face of the water pump casting. I think I may also have it in my files, and can look if needed.

The L79 water pump with AC and PS was special in that the hub was moved a bit from the L79 that did not have both PS and AC. That is the reason (and likely the only reason) for the HP engine suffix rather than the HP suffix.

You may find this dimension thru a quick search...........or you can install the pump with hand tight bolts, check pulley alignment with you other accessories, and then adjust the hub to fit.

EDIT: Leif, here is JohnZ reply on this subject. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...350hp-a-c.html

From my files the SB water pump dimension from the front face of the hub to the flat machined mounting surface at the rear of the WP body is either:

5-9/16 inch or 5-11/16 inch. But my notes do not distinguish which is which. In fact, neither reference indicates that one is for the HP and the other is for the HT. So there is already general confusion just on the normal specifications. An old GM book on Corvette specifications shows the 5-11/16 inch as standard for Corvette, yet JohnZ and others state 5-9/16 is the standard. Then JohnZ later states that the HT to HP hub difference is 1/4 inch difference per the factory blueprints.

Since there was a spacer added in 1967 for strength between the WP hub and pulley, this may account for the 1/8 inch difference that is observed in various books. I dunno.

I think you are on your own for the final fit using my numbers and references above to get you close.

Maybe give Bill Mock a call??

EDIT2: Here is another reply from JohnZ on this subject. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...6-for-l79.html In this one he states 5-9/16 is the correct dimension for the engines with the HP suffix.
