    License plate lights

I noticed my license plate lights on my 57 were dimming and flickering then went out all together. I figured it was a bad ground so I took them out, cleaned all the surfaces and with my test light connected to the negative side of the battery,I see the test light light up but the lights wont come on. What am I missing?

Tony, the ground for the rear harness is on the top of the rear left side bumper extension (or frame rail - I forget which). All the rear lights are returned to ground at this point. It is a common occurrence for this connection to corrode up after so many years of service.

The gas gauge gets it ground at this connection also. So see if that works too.

Take the screw out, clean everything up nice and shiny, and put it back together with a internal tooth lock washer between the wires and the frame piece. Then coat it with some black paint and you should not have any more problems for a long, long time.
