Body is FINALLY on the Frame :-)

FINALLY got the body on the Frame on Good Friday (and a good Friday it was, indeed)!!

A little over 6 years and FINALLY hit this major milestone. There are still a lot of little piddly things to complete but I'm confident this year will be the year. I'll get to drive my car for the first time. When that happens, I don't think I'll be able to wipe the smile off of my face.

For any of you (which I'm sure most of you) who have worked tirelessly to finish your project, it is definitely a MAJOR accomplishment and a great feeling of satisfaction of putting in the blood, sweat and tears for such a great masterpiece.

Just thought I'd share my progress. Enjoy...

      Jill,
I've been following your build over the years...kudos to you for having the drive and initiative to, not only tackle this job, but to come this far and so close to fruition. You will definitely have a smile that will be hard to erase when you get to drive her. Big time congratulations!!

        Jill,

Good job! You should join the Texas Chapter and bring it to one of our Chapter meets or the Texas Lone Star Regional in Frisco.

CAR LOOKS GREAT. What motor and driveline? 245hp or 270hp? I see the 4 speed. I just looked back at your previous posts. WOW, JILL.!! I am impressed. You ''do it all''. When did you get into mechanical work? You can be on my RACE TEAM whenever you are ready.

I agree with Gary. We California transplants, now Texan have had a great time with the TEXAS CHAPTER, especially the great people. And yes the October Regional and Chapter meets are a lot of fun. The Texas Road tour in April is also a neat experience.

Thanks Gary! I plan to join the Texas Chapter so I can meet all of you and swap stories. I do plan to bring it to some of my local meets at first. I'm still contemplating purchasing an enclosed trailer for transport for some of the meets farther away.

Thanks James!! It's a 270hp. I believe mine may have originally had a 1x4 setup but i didnt find out until after i bought my 2x4 carb and intake (270hp). My husband bought it for my birthday a few years ago (the ladies at work thought that was really funny when I told them what he had gotten me - I was so happy to get them ). The primary indicator that it was a 1x4 setup was the hole in the accelerator bracket (mine has a large hole which designates the 1x4).

As far as the mechanical work, when I started dating my husband over 30 years ago, he always had cars. And before we knew it, out collection started to grow. We always found projects to work on (instead of buying the finished product) and I have always helped him. And I didn't realize I was a total gear head until I finally had my own project to work on (76 Jeep CJ5) that entailed a ground up restoration. I was totally hooked because I could play in the sandbox too at our local car shows. It was so much fun and all of the people we have met over the years with the same hobby are so nice and helpful.

Thanks for the info on the Texas Chapter meets. They sound like a lot of fun with a lot of great people. And, yes, I'd be happy to be on your race team anytime!

I am just beginning my project and just painted the frame. I envy you being there. Good luck.

                      Hi Jill,

Interesting I read one of your originall threads and you did not have an engine or transmission - neither did mine. I am trying to resurrect a 60 and I think it was a horizon blue that i can see around the trunk and door jams it was stripped when I got it. ill probably read your old threads as I do mine.

                        Hi Dan.

I know you said your car was stripped when you got it. I found my grease pencil marking on the passenger side rear bulkhead in the trunk. At least, that's where it's located on the 59s. I think I read somewhere that there may be a grease pencil marking behind the passenger seat for the 60s that would indicate the body color (but don't quote me on that). If it's stripped already, you will probably have difficulty finding any indicators other than the jamb areas you mentioned.

As far as your interior paint color, you should be able to look behind your gauge cluster which might help or look on inside your door panels. My gauge cluster still had the grease pencil marking under it too (mine was #253). This number designates where you were on the assembly line in the factory and my interior color was turquoise.

Is there any way to find out any history on your car from the person you bought it from? Maybe they have some information they can share with you. I've also read where the seats (in the bottom spring area) may have some documentation stowed away in there. I found some paper that had some printing on it inside the bottom of my driver's seat but it was so dilapidated, I pretty much fell apart when I found it so I couldn't read it at all (so I'm not sure if it was even anything). I've even read where there could be a factory build sheet adhered to the gas tank. Mine had nothing of the sort. In any event, I'm sure you'll have a great time getting your car up to spec. I've truly enjoyed working on mine and have met some GREAT people along the way.

Since I've worked on mine for over 6 years, I have to admit that I've gotten tired of working on my project from time to time but have managed to stay on it. I have taken some breaks, especially when I've gotten frustrated with it, but I just keep focusing on what it will feel like to drive it for the first time. That's what keeps me going.

Any questions, feel free to reach out. I'd be glad to help any way I can.

                        Jill, 59140

Daniel - check in the glove box or the compartment where the convertible top is stored. Sometimes the original color can be seen in there.
