1970 wiper door vacuum troubleshooting

I have a 70 and want to ask if someone has troubleshooting guide for the wiper vacuum system. Upon start-up, the wiper door rises then closes (once vacuum is established) and then the system operates normally. Is probably on the driver side of firewall but would like to follow the proper steps. Thanks for your help.

I've had this identical problem two times in 47 years. Check the rubber plug on the back of the wiper vacuum canister, under the flexible boot. It can be dislodged by the linkage running through it. Takes a few seconds to check.
