    67 convertible windshield molding repair/replace

There are a lot of questions about windshield molding in the forum. Not so many answers. Thanks for any responses.

I pulled the stainless windshield molding from my 67 convertible and have a couple of questions. All of the parts look pretty good except one. Here's the front upper. It has some pretty bad dings. Anyone have any magic trick to hammer them out? I'm guessing not. So, live with it or buy a new one?

Then there's the POUNDS of putty and black silicon (?) that I had to remove. Does all the putty serve any purpose? What is it? Where and how much should be used? Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant I guess is used along the edges?

    Again, thanks.

      Tom,

Thanks for the response. I chickened out. A buddy with another 67 turned me on to a great restoration shop who does top quality chrome and stainless work. For the record http://www.autorestorationinfortwort...tion-services/

There used to be one of the best stainless restorers in the Country right here in Austin, but he's no longer in business. I brought him a couple of damaged windshield pieces once and he told me that he had to do them all or none at all. He explained that when he was done, the ones he didn't polish would look horrible compared to the ones he restored. He was correct and I brought him all of them. Try to use the originals if you can, they will go back together better that way.

Yep. He didn't tell me all of none. But after seeing their working... It would be a mirror next to a trashcan lid.
