Engine mount questions please

I want to use locking type (i.e. Corvette Central) engine mounts on a non corvette application. This is for a 327 in a 65 Chevelle. Looking through the Corvette C2 AIMs and the 65 Chevelle AIM there are two different part number for 65-67 Corvette and the Chevelle small block has different part number than the corvette. Actually the chevelle show a different part number for Right side vs Left.

What I'm I trying to figure out is will the CC locking engine mount fit my application?

Sorry for the non corvette question, but I know there is a wealth of knowledge on the forum beyond just the Corvette.

The 64-65 Chevelle retrofit locking style motor mounts are different than the 1970+ Corvette locking mounts. The Chevelle and Corvette mounts are not interchangeable. The last available part number for the GM mounts was GM #3990914 which is long-since GM discontinued. You may be able to find some NOS examples on eBay. Otherwise, a vendor source like Eckler's Chevelle or other Chevelle parts sources may offer reproductions equivalent in quality to the Corvette mount reproductions.

Rich, I'm not sure. Here's a picture of some from a well know Chevelle parts vendor. Note the nuts welded on the inside. Not sure what the differences are. I'll probably go to the parts vendor for mine. Thanks for the lead though!

I think these are also the locking type?

Those are not nuts. They are steel spacers welded to the frame of the mount. The Corvette locking style motor mounts, both original GM, reproduction, and replacement, have them, too. They are necessary to make the wider locking style mount adapt to frame brackets designed for the narrower non-locking mounts. Even though Corvettes went to locking style mounts for 1970-82, the frame brackets were never changed and are the same as those used for 1963-69.

For some reason, the Chevelle locking mounts generally did not use the spacers and, instead, the frame of the mount was reconfigured to narrow it at the point that it attaches to the frame bracket. Even the GM mounts used this configuration. They must have had a good reason for this although I do not know what it was. The Chevelle locking mounts you picture are unusual, in my opinion. I think I would be reluctant to try to use the style with the spacers as you picture for a Chevelle.

I might also add that the original style, non-locking motor mounts were also different for Corvette and Chevelle. Just how they were different, I do not know.

The ones Rich found look very similar to the NOS ones you found on EBay. Neither of them have the welded spacers on the inner body. The chevelle vendor ones I pictured have straight sides in the body with the welded spacers. Both the EBay ones have contoured body sides to I guess make up for the dimensional difference.

Do either of you guys think one of the three would necessarily be any better than the other. I'm not opposed to spending $260 for NOS ones, but not if a $20 or $40 set is just as good.

Since the GM locking mounts do not use the spacers, if I was going to use non-GM mounts, I'd want to use the best aftermarket mounts that are configured like the GM mounts.

Yikes! $259.99 for the pair.

On a related note.... I'm not sure how good 40 to 50 year old NOS rubber is. I've had bad experiences with 20 year old NOS C1 rubber windshield weatherstrips tearing after installation.

On the other hand, I'm not sure how good 30 to 50 DAY old offshore rubber is either!
