    94 Convertible Antenna

Hi I have a 94 and for a while the antenna would go down sometimes when the radio or car was turned off, but now it just stays up. Not sure if there is a trouble shooting order that I should follow. I have been looking for the relay behind the seats but I have been unable to find it. Any suggestions or direction to an existing thread on this would be appreciated.

Also if I should replace the stinger I have heard it is difficult to get the old antenna out - any direction on how to do this would also be appreciated.

removing the antenna is fairly simple. you partly remove the drivers side rear inner fender panel. to get it it. and remove the plastic trim under the back window for a coupe to get to the wires. not sure on a convertible.

Thanks Keith - but I was told by the guy at the local radio shop that the AC/Delco motor is very rarely the cause of the failure and it is usually the stinger with the strip that runs through the gears or sometimes the relay. I guess I was looking for someway of testing the various components and keeping the original motor before I replace the motor. But maybe I should take off the wheel and check the motor first? Also I have seen different wiring diagrams one with the relay under the console, one under the storage compartment in the back floor and one with it where it goes through the back bulkhead. Can anyone help me out on the location? Thanks

Jim, I had to replace my complete antenna unit due to water shorting out the electrics. My 93 ZR-1 was very easy to replace. If you can get a copy of the 94 Corvette Service Manual Section 9A it gives full instructions on how to remove the complete unit. I believe all 90 thru 95 C-4 antennas are the same. If you are unable to find one, I would give a call to Dirk Gaddis in Colorado, his e-mail is dirkgaddis@gmail.com. I have purchased parts from him for my ZR-1 and my 1990 Base Convertible. Very honorable man, and fair prices. He may have a copy of the Service Manual, or you can acquire it thru Amazon or EBAY. Hope this helps. C-4'S ONWARD AND UPWARD. WORD OF CAUTION, WHEN WASHING YOUR C-4, PLACE MASKING TAPE OVER THE ANTENNA WHEN IT IS DOWN. That is what caused my antenna to fail.

Just a follow up note I ended up taking out the antenna motor - undid the mast from the motor - pushed the ribbon cable in and out manually - then connected it directly to the battery (Orange positive - Black negative and then jumped across the orange to the pink wire) and it worked fine. I reinstalled and now it works every time just fine. Not sure if a ground was not making good contact or if the ribbon cable was bound up - but in any event it is working now. Thanks again to the membership for the help.
