I think your right. Mileage right and condition needs to be original.

This is a 1973 story. I had a friend that bought a 1973 red/red Big Block coupe new. He wanted to restore it and I told him to put his money elsewhere. He didn't listen. He invested about 95k in the restoration. He got ill and tried to sell it. He could not get 12K. It was a good restoration. Just my 2 cents from what I see the 70's era Corvettes are not on the top 10 wanted list. They are on the avoid list.

I had a new paint job on a 75 vert 4 speed with A/C that blowed cold silver/red and could not get 20K new interior

I believe one of the big auctions sold a top flight 4 speed convertible last year in Kissimmee for about $55K. I'm sure you can look it up on their site.

Ha! Way over priced, but you can ask anything you like. I recently had my '81, 6000 mile, 98% original 4 Star Bowtie winner up for sale at $25K. No one wanted it.

A car like that is neat, but unfortunately it's garage art.
With low mileage no one really wants to drive it.
You might take it for a McLellan award, nd a BG Benchmark, but then what?

As I noted to someone grumbling about a similar car last year, you can take a $15000 car, spend a lot of time and money getting awards, and in the end you have....a $15000 car. Maybe a bit more, but you get the idea. You have to enjoy the process and not the money for that one. The same is true of C4s.

I suspect that if collectors want garage art, a 75 or 81 aren't high on the list.

True, I loved the process and that was what it was all about, not money, and since so many people told me "that car should be in a museum"...I donated it to the NCM, they were thrilled to get it, one of the early ones made at the new BG Corvette factory.

                          Neat.

                          I'd like to find a two-tone blue 81 with a 4 speed.
I knew someone who had one, and it was gorgeous...until he let it sit outside year round.

Luckily, this one was always in a garage, and the original paint and interior are gorgeous, it is a tu-tone claret over dark claret, not many made in that color combo, here she is being Bowtie judged at the National in 2017.

I agree, 68-72 are way hard to restore correctly I have a 70 Convertible $15,000 5 year restoration way expensive, but for the most part I am enjoying the challenge and I WILL drive it after judging. A 75 has to be even more of a issue, unless somebody has a really nice original for a reasonable price not $60,000 !!!! More like $25,000
If somebody has a 70 or 72 LT-1 ( a real one please) I am interested at fair market prices one that can be driven 72 Air?
                              THANKS Bob
