Mark------Preparing to put a ‘64 L75 back together. Is there any “latest and greatest” I’ve missed, or will the following still get the job done well (interspersed with a few questions)?
Fasteners: ARP Ultra-Torque or ARP Tread Sealer (for bolts going into the water jacket)
Bearings (incl. cam bearings): Clevite Bearing Guard (or other assembly lube?)
Cam lobes/bottom of lifters/valve tips/pushrod seats: the stuff in the tubes that came from Crane with the camshaft and lifters. It’s 10 years old, but the packages are unopened. Will kneed liberally before use.
Rockers - Bearing Guard (or other assembly lube?)
Timing chain/gears - assembly lube or engine oil?
Cylinder walls - engine oil.

I think everything you suggest would be acceptable. I've never used some of these lubricants but I expect they will be OK. For me, I use Red Line assembly lube on everything.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I have not assembled any engine with a flat tappet cam in a LONG while. With roller cams I use the Red Line. If I were assembling an engine with a flat tappet cam, the specialty lubricant from the cam manufacturer might be a better choice. Always add a pint of GM's EOS to the engine oil, though.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I' not familiar with Clevite Bearing Guard, but other than using a molydisulfide grease ("assembly lube") on the lobes, lifters, and rocker balls, C-category engine oil is fine for anything else, and whatever the lastest/greatest sealer is for bolts that penetrate the water jacket.
If you haven't overhauled the distributor, you should do so (see my thread L-79 dist. blueprint overhaul) including lighter centrifugal springs and a B22 VAC.

Here is questions for you guys> Can ARP Ultra-Torque or ARP Tread Sealer also be used for a "Pipe Thread Sealer". Trying to find a sealer
that can be used for several applications. Thanks in advance>LarryLarry

High temp ultra black was only thing that stopped oil migrateing uo the intake bolts in my case.- Top

For bolts which go into the water jacket, I suggest Permatex #2 sealant.
I tried using Teflon paste, like the ARP thread sealant, and had unpleasant results: About half of the water jacket bolt holes leaked coolant into the oil. I'm aware that others have used the Teflon paste to successfully seal head bolt threads, and that's fine. I'll never use it again for that purpose.
For tapered pipe threads, however, it's good stuff.

I'm sure some may disagree, but I used to use a 30 weight ashless oil and EOS in a 50/50 mix for an assembly lube for general assembly purposes such as bearings and pistons. I agree that the cam manufacturers lube is best for flat tappet lifter/cam installation and will aid in breaking in the cam. I also like the Permatex #2. Upon disassembly after a considerable amount of time, it seems to hang in there well. When I was using steel head gaskets, I would give them a coat of silver spray paint.- Top
