C3 Chrome Mirror

I know 1977 was the first year for the D35 sport mirrors. My question is, did Chevy install the standard chrome mirror on the drivers door on 1978 1979 1980 1981 1982 cars? In the books the D35 sport mirror is shown as an option and there was an extra charge, but I also know that some items that were an option Chevy would automatically install on the vehicle whether you wanted it or not and it was charged to the car. Like sport mirrors were listed on the window sticker as an option but that is the way the car came from the factory. I have never seen a 1978 1979 Corvette with the standard chrome mirror on the drivers door. I have been told that the chrome mirrors were standard equipment on 1977-1979. Anybody have data to clarify this question?

According to GM, yes. It was GM #345493. It was similar to the left side chrome mirror used earlier except the head was a little wider.

Sorry I didn't explain my question. I know the right and left CHROME mirror, NOT the body colored sport mirror, were similar, but my question was the chrome mirror used from 1968-1976 and some 1977 P/N 345493, mounted on the drivers door, was used on the 1978 and 1979 models? I have never seen chrome mirrors on a 1978 and/or 1979. I have only seen them with sport mirrors.

Well, all I can tell you is that GM cataloged the GM #345493 in SERVICE for 1977-79 Corvettes except D35. This strongly implies that the 345493 was used in PRODUCTION. Also, for 1978, records show that 38,405 Corvettes were equipped with sport mirrors. That leaves 8,371 cars without D35 which, presumably, have the chrome mirrors. A similar situation existed for 1979.

I don't think any 1980-82 Corvettes were equipped with chrome mirrors, though. Indeed, no chrome mirror is shown in SERVICE for those years.

Thanks for the response Joe. I have never seen a 78 or 79 with chrome mirrors, but of course I never seen every 78 or 79 Corvette built neither. Anyway thank you for pointing that out.
