    1972 A-pillar weatherstrip

Is the weatherstrip on the front side glass cut at the end of the chrome trim or does it have the extra piece that extends down the hinge pillar. I have seen it both ways in pictures. I purchased the Dr. Rebuild kit and it has the extended piece attached. Do I remove it? I dont have the originals to compare.

I have a June built 72 convertible. Thanks

The 70-72 Judging Guide is very clear on that.

Michael, The piece of weatherstrip on the 1972 windshield post actually began in very late 1971 production. It has been my observation that the 1971 Corvettes that do not have that extra piece of weatherstrip usually do not have fiber optics on their console as we know that 1972 Corvettes do not have. - Ron

Late 72 convertible? No weatherstrip below the chrome.

You might want to swap with someone who needs the full piece, as some repro pieces make you "glue" the two parts back together.

My April build 72' did not have the lower hinge piece attached - had all the factory WS when I purchased it.

that went away sometime in 1971

Bill, like my post said it was very late production 71.

1971 #21467 (last week of production) had no windshield tails but had fiber optics. 5 star car.

I've never seen a 71 without them or a 72 with them, despite the comment above.
But, as Terry says, I haven't seen them all.

                          Dave,

You said above that the car DOES have fiber optics, though, correct?

That was my point - I have never seen a 71 without fiber optics, or a 72 with them.
I don't expect that will change despite what my friend Ron recollects.

Here's what I don't understand: 1971 Corvettes were advertised as having the fiber-optic light monitoring system. GM rarely, if ever, deleted an advertised feature for a given model year. They might delete options, non-advertised features, or other non-advertised specs. Sometimes, albeit rarely, they even changed advertised specs. However, advertised features were another matter.

Why? What happens when the guy takes delivery of his new 1971 Corvette, finds that the car does not have fiber optics, and shows the dealer that it says in the brochure the car's supposed to have fiber optics?

Yes, I know that there is a "fine print" disclaimer on most advertising that says that Chevrolet reserves the right to change specs without notice. However, in practice, that generally applies to non-advertised specs or features. There's a difference between "you thought it was going to be a certain way" and "we told you it was going to be a certain way"
