Here's a photo showing one that is in kinda rough shape. I don't think this part is being reproduced, but they do show up on eBay from time to time. I bought one off there a few years ago for $50.

This one looks like it's installed on a 1970 as the alternator shown is the 1970 design. The change to the alternator rear case design for 1970 obviated one of the functionalities of the bracket. That function was the "anti-rotation" feature which the bent-over tabs on the end provided. In the 1969 configuration with the grounding lug boss nearly flush with the case, the tabs installed over the perimeter of the case and prevented rotation of the bracket from its designed location. For 1970 and later, the grounding lug boss was raised about 1/4" off the rear of the case and the tabs no longer provided any rotational control. The bracket could have been redesigned with longer tabs but it never was and continued to be used for several years after 1969.

This bracket was supplied with the wiring harness and, as far as I can determine, was never available separately from GM.

Here are a few more photos of one:

Yup, exactly right as usual, Joe. I just found that photo through a Google search, but I noticed as well that it didn't fit the alternator correctly. I believe one of the "prongs" goes into a notch in the outer rim of the '69 alternators to keep it from rotating.

Do you know what year this bracket was originally installed in? Could you please measure the length of the bent-over "tangs?

                Re: 1969 alternator wire bracket

                Hi Joe,

Looks to be about 5/8" and 1/2". I bought this part off eBay, but I just compared it to the original one from my '69, and that one looks to be the same.

I'm curious as to why you ask. Are there variations to this part?

                Thanks,
                Paul

I thought these "tangs" appeared longer than the ones on my 1969. However, based on your measurement and on my re-examination and measurement of mine, they are the same.

As far as I know, this bracket did not change during the period of its use and, from what we've learned here, that still appears to be the case.
