    C2 Engine Installation in Chassis

Soon I will be installing my engine into my restored chassis for my 1965. While the engine is on the stand I will install the motor mounts, all shielding, distributor, intake manifold (without carburetor), plugs, ignition wires, coil, fuel pump, oil canister, etc.

I was planning to install the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, bell housing, throw-out bearing, clutch fork, starter and transmission after the engine is bolted to the 2 engine mounts. Since the mounts are forward of center, should I support the engine to keep it level while installing those parts ? If so, should I leave the cherry picker with a load leveler in position or should I put a jack under the oil pan with some padding ?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Is the body on the frame? I did both my 65's with the body off and installed the engine and trans. as a unit. Then installed all the other parts and broke in the engine prior to installing the body.

Jim - the body is off the chassis. I plan to run the rebuilt engine on the chassis before installing the body. To install the engine and trans together then I would have to do this while the engine is hanging from the cherry picker, right ? Seems kind of awkward which is why I was trying to do the engine first.

I left the engines attached to the cherry picker but lowered them onto blocks so they wouldn't move while installing the transmissions. After installing the engine/trans. as a unit, it's easy to put on all the rest of the parts and break in the engine.

This is how I do it with the transmission attached with the body on. Much easier to make sure everything is aligned and correct.

Thank you Pat. Do you prefer using exhaust bolts to hold the chain rather than intake bolts ?

Yes, I find it less risky with the fuelie intake adapter. I would use the intake bolts with a carb set up. I would like to try the straps in the future however.
