    Clutch pivot stud

The clutch pivot ball stud that mounts to the frame on my '62 is slightly worn. Presuming that it would be best to replace it, would it be better to replace just the ball stud or to replace the bracket assembly with the ball stud already attached. Both ways are available in the aftermarket.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Either way, I think it's a bit of a hassle. The bracket is welded to the frame. So, if you replace the complete bracket assembly you will have to cut the existing one from the frame, then weld-on the new one.

On the other hand, I believe that the original ball studs were only supplied as part of the bracket assembly. I think they are more-or-less permanently attached to the bracket. So, I don't know how replacements would be attached.

The original stud is pressed into the bracket. It's been many years since I replaced the one on my 60 but if I remember correctly, I simply hit the back side of the stud with a grinder and knocked it out. Put the new one in and tack welded it in place.

On my 61 a friend and I replaced the ball stud -- mine was worn so badly it actually cut a groove in the bellcrank tube....which I also replaced.

Thanks for the input guys. It's good to hear that somebody has replaced just the ball stud successfully and has withstood the test of time.

My repair lasted 5 years until I sold the car.

It gets me how some owners are so quick to jump on the "gorilla spring" and think that's the source of a gritty or hard-to-operate clutch and if they spent some time examining all the pivot points, adjustments and angles they might just find they have other problems that are the cause....
