In your case, I think it's a moot point. I don't think that any 1969 Corvettes were ever equipped with a Borg-Warner posi unit. They were only used early in the C2 era but I think the reference in the 1969 service manual is an anachronism.

The corvette used a DANA posi in 63-4 and again in 80-82, both are not too good. 65-79 used Eatons in several revisions.

Eaton posi's can certainly be rebuilt- various ways in fact. The 63-4 Dana parts are long gone and the poor design isn't worth rebuilding. The 80-82 DANA's can be rebuilt but they have issues chewing up the retainers, some upgrade to a C4 posi but I sure wouldn't.

A 69 Eaton posi will have what I call the tear-drop window, 4 springs, 10-18 spiders, and solid steel clutches. The posi cases were better then the previous years but not as good as the 72-79 cases. The springs I never use, the 10-18 spiders are ok but the later 10-17 are better, the solid steels are the only ones you want to use, forget about the fiber coated ones or snow flake clutches. Check the case for cracks, ring gear bolt damage, and oblong cross shaft holes. I always mill the cross shaft pad deeper as well for better support.

Remember, '66-up CSMs and COMs cover all Chevrolet passenger cars. It's possible that some '69 (maybe Nova) used a B-W cone type Positraction case, which is not serviceable. The same or similar B-W cone-type Posi case is in the 7.5" axle of my Cosworth Vega, and I believe the same basic 7.5" axle archietecture was shared with Nova's and the Gen III Camaro. Later S-10 pickups used a "7 5/8" axle" that shared a lot of internal parts with the 7.5" axle.
