    GM Antifreeze Question

Is GM spec 6038-M the old green antifreeze and did this spec # change to 1825 or something like that in the past few years.

This question is non Corvette related but my old 1995 gmc sonoma truck 4.3 engine needs a flush and fill and calls out the 6038-M spec, not sure what's in there now but It's not green. I am thinking about using zerox g-05 but vavoline tech suggested max life product because it's more compatible if someone used dexcool in the system.

I always understood the G-05 would work with either IAT (green) or OAT (dexcool). What's the scoop with the max life products and is it better to use that and not the G-05.

    Nothing simple anymore...

GM spec 1825-M is met by standard Prestone "green" coolant. However, Zerex G-05 also meets spec 1825-M. Of the two, I prefer G-05 for any cooling system containing copper/brass components and solder joints.

The spec for DexCool is GM #6277-M

At the moment, I do not recall what 6038-M is.

I ALWAYS make sure that whatever coolant I use for any application meets the appropriate spec found in the owner's manual or service manual for the particular vehicle. I will use no other.
