Hi, I seem to have a bracket I can't determine a use for (1966 convertible, L79, C60, N40, J50). It sits behind the surge tank on the RH side, my battery is located on the LH side (C60). It appears to be a factory installed item, but I have no idea if it should remain or not. It's likely the inner fender was changed over the last 50+ years.

Re: Should this bracket be there? '66 C60 roadster
Hi Robert,
I've never seen a bracket like this on any '66. But that's only what I've observed. Let's get other's opinions. But this is likely an add-on bracket. Maybe a mount for an old burglar alarm horn? The screws don't look like something GM would install. Different lengths for same bracket thickness. Take a look inside the wheel well to see if factory sound deadener/blackout was sprayed over the bolt heads. What do the bolt heads look like? If they're slotted heads then they're likely not originals.
Just one '66 owner's opinion. Mike

That sounds pretty reasonable! Here's the screw heads, seem like an older design slotted head and they are on top of the deadener too.Attached Files- Top

Robert
That picture it appears to look like a bracket that used for a alarm horn/siren, I agree with Mike.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Ed/Mike have identified it! It's an old bracket for the siren of an alarm system, I have a few still in the cellar.
Remove fill, spray a little under coating over area - will never see. Remember even if GM put bracket on (not saying that)
then it would be called "not typical production" unless the owner has documentation showing the opposite.- Top
