Question on the radio wiring for 69 AM/FM radio

    Guys,

I'm trying to get the wiring for my 69 AM/FM radio sorted out. I didn't have the original radio so I picked one up from eBay. Turns out it is a 72 radio according to the restorer, but he says he can restore it as he would for a 69. My question is can it be wired according to the Mono wiring diagram with both speaker wires coming out of the back of the radio, or is that only for AM radios? Were all the AM/FM radios stereo or were some Mono? Which ones? A certain year? Thanks,

    Mike

All were am/fm. The last straight am was early 1963. Speaker wiring should be green/black on all 69-72.

Thanks Mike. So what is the difference between the Mono and stereo units? Was that an option?

Stereo (U79) was an option and in addition to a light on the radio face to indicate stereo reception an additional unit with output transistors was installed under the dash. See U69/U79 in your AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual). Also see the 1968-69 TIM&JG. Both will have illustrations of these features and where to mount them.

If you plan on having the car judged, 1972 radios have white numerals and a light to indicate stereo reception. 1969 has green numerals and block-lettered STEREO.

Mike, If he hasn't started restoring you radio let me know. I might have a 69 radio in my stash. I bought a bunch of radios last year from a local parts guy.
